Dental Care Encouraged by Iowa Healthiest State

Healthiest State Initiative Strives for Better Well-Being for Iowans

Healthiest State Initiative Strives for Better Well-Being for Iowans The State of Iowa strives to be among the healthiest states in America, and the Healthiest State Initiative recognized the need and benefits of routine dental care for all adults in the February Newsletter.

Most adult Iowans who are employed full-time have dental health benefits available, and yet more than 30% of adults do not visit the dentist at least once per year. Most people even pay for dental benefits through their employer, but never take advantage of proper dental care – leaving money on the table – but why?

Some adults just feel like they are too busy, while others simply don’t like going to the dentist. With the latest dental technology that creates a more comfortable dental check-up, and free or inexpensive preventative dental care, you will save time in the long-run by going to the dentist regularly starting now.

What Do You Have to Lose by Going to the Dentist?

Nothing… One or 2 preventative dental cleaning per year, along with good daily oral hygiene habits, can save your teeth from decay. It may even save you from painful oral surgery, cavities that go deep into the root of your teeth, or expensive tooth replacement like dentures or dental implants.

But There is So Much To Gain

Adults who regularly attend preventative dental exams report better dental health and overall well-being. That is a big gain for an exam that is often FREE through your dental insurance, or costs only a minimum co-pay.

Your oral health does affect your overall well-being in more ways than you know!

  • Mental Health – Feeling good about yourself is important, and missing or damaged teeth can cause you to lose confidence, professional opportunities and more.
  • Heart Health – Decaying or infected teeth can cause plaque and infection in the blood stream. That can have a negative effect on your cardiac health.
  • Prenatal Health – Pregnant women often have an increase in cavities and gum disease due to change in hormones that affect your response to infection.  Routine cleanings and early detection can keep the problem at a minimum.

Iowa Promotes Dental Health at Every Age

The Healthiest State Initiative offers dental health advice to people of all ages, because each age group has its own unique dental health needs.

No matter what your age, you are risking tooth decay and periodontal disease if you avoid routine dental care.
